Hospital

Another Ambulance Rushes

Inside is another man whose blood gushes

his arms covered in blood

as the helicopter hovered high above

his woundes, deep like a cave

that has no bottom

he shows no fright

like superman about to fight

but in reality hes just a coward

ultimately scared to die

but sometimes so am I.

Reflection

The reason i wrote this poem was because I wanted to talk about something that is creepy and scares me sometimes like hospitals.  This poem also shows how on the outside he acts like he isn't scared about anything but inside he's a coward and scared. I used a couple of literary devices in this poem like similes about the caves, and allusion, about superman.

Freedom

All we want is to be equal with everyone

All we want is to be able to go to the same school
All we want is to be able to play the same sports together

All we want is to be able to go to the same bathroom

All we want is to be able to march without violence

All we want is to not be treated differently

All we want is to have the right to vote

Reflection

I wrote this poem when we had to write about our up front article and I got one about Selma.  After reading this article it really made me think about what African Americans really wanted. One literary device I used was rhythm because of the way I started every line with "all we want is to".

Sonnet Reflection

Writing my sonnet was a little hard especially when having to follow most of the rules to a Shakespearean sonnet.  One thing I had a lot of trouble with was the amount of syllables I needed per line.  It made me have to change many lines.  I also tried to make my sonnet have to different sides to it.  The father in war and the kid struggling in life.  One literary device I used in my sonnet is rhyme because without it it wouldn't be a real Shakespearean sonnet.

Heart poem reflection

My poem was the starry night and I picked this poem because it used a lot of literary devices in it and that really helped me to write my poems because I used this poem as a guide.  But the poem itself really showed me what imagination can do like the speaker did about the moon bulging and dragons in the night sky.

Also this poem had created a very famous painting of the starry night.  Before I saw this photo I pictured the starry night to look different than what it was in the photo.  This made me start to think that people imagine things differently in their eyes to someone else's eyes.

This poem really stood out to me because it also talked about how the narrator wanted to die in that setting  and it said it multiple times to show how much they meant it.  This repetition really stood with me and made me want to add some of it in my own poems.  In all this poem was very great and thought me a lot.

Reading Response

           Danny Walker played basketball his whole life and never really had problems at first, but things quickly changed when he started playing competitively. In the book Summer ball by mike Lupica, Danny would always be picked last to join a team and basketball because of his size.  He was much sealer than most of the people he was usually with.  It wasn't fair for Danny because people judged his game on the way he looked.
            Danny's height really set him back when he went to camp.  some kids were almost two feet taller than him.  On his first game at camp the kids picked him last to be on their team.  this made Danny feel like he wasn't welcomed or good enough for this camp.  "I'm the one who should be looking to go home... I'm not good enough  to be at this camp."  This shows that Danny's height can mess with his mind.  Another thing is Danny doesn't play as aggressive as he should because people take advantage of him because of how weak and small he seems.  Danny says "Hate it here.  Got hurt today." He got hurt because a kid named Rasheed knocked him straight on the floor during a game.
           Danny had to overcome his height disadvantage by getting motivated by other people.  Like his friends and family.  One person that helped was his friend Tess she tried to cheer him up by texting him while he was in camp.  "he didn't tell, her he was leaving, but she already guessed that.  Come on Danny.  Only a week how bad can it be?  It will get better then you'll win like always."  Another person that helps him is his dad.  His dad tells him about his basketball days.  "And despite being the size I am,  I still managed to be All- State Middletown high, got a scholarship out of here to Syracuse get to be all America there and become a lottery pick in the NBA."  This shows different ways people tried to help Danny overcome his height disadvantage.
          It is important for people to realize that your height shouldn't set you back and get to you mentally and physically.  It should also show people that people can be there for you when you need them to help you or get through something.

There once was a small king of only 5 ft 2”.  He was a good king, he knew how to run a village perfectly.  Everyone felt welcome in his Kingdom

But one day the king started to feel lonely because he didn't have a queen to love, so he seeked for the most beautiful person he could find in his kingdom.

The king searched and searched, but no one wanted to be his queen.  This got the king mad he thought people should obey everything he said.

The villagers minded their own business they still loved their king because he was loyal and didnt over work anyone, until one day.

The king thought his villagers should pay for not making him happy so he faked an attack on his kingdom

“We’re under attack!  Hide the kids and man the gates!” the king screamed across the whole village.  All the mothers grabbed their children  and ran to their houses, all the men grabbed their weapons and ran to the front gate.

The men waited there

and waited

and waited

the king then came laughing like a mad man telling them about how there wasn't any attacks on the village. this got the villagers very mad because they were very loyal to their king.

The king thought it would be funny if he did this almost everyday.

The villagers had enough on the fourth day of this fake attack set up.  They decided to let their guard down and the next time the king asked for them to guard the base they weren’t gonna do it.

A couple of days past and the king noticed that there was no villagers up top on the watch tower. “This is madness!” screamed the king.  He climbed up the tower to find no one up there, but before he could do anything he looked out to see a small army marching towards the village. “Oh no!” yelled the king

He ran down the ladder yelling “We’re under attack!  Hide the kids and man the gates!” but not a single villager moved.  “What are you guys doing” yelled the king.  “we’re tired of you tricking us into thinking were under attack we're not gonna fall for it this time”.  The king tried to convince them but the villagers wouldn't budge.

Out of no was a huge explosion happened blowing down the front gates of the village and an army stormed inside the place

“AHHHHH” the villagers screamed.  The armor stole all their stuff, crops, animals, and money before they could even react leaving the villagers poor.

the king realized what he had done and that he couldn't be forgiven, he was upset.  The king knew that because he lied the village had been taken over

The villagers were furious they had enough of their king so they all packed their bags and left the village leaving their unforgiven king standing in the middle of his old village.

One thing many kids do today is lie.  Kids lie because they can be scared of the truth,  they also lie to get out of situations they don't want to be in.  Lying can really hurt a kids life because when people lie they tend to lose respect and no one will believe them when they are serious and need help.  This can relate to the book “the boy who cried wolf” by Aespo where a shepherd constantly lies that the sheep have been eaten by wolves and the villagers constantly runs up to the sheep and notice that they're still alive, the villagers got tired of the kid lying so when the wolves actually did come and eat the sheeps no one ran up to help because they didn't believe the kid.  In my book i'm trying to warn kids about how much lying can impact your life.  

I want to write my story to show kids that telling the truth is better than lying. when people lie they can. In my life i witnessed a lot of lies and liars. It made me not want to believe anything that person said or did. The reason i care about this topic is because lying can endanger you and many others.

I want the reader to to realize the conscientious of lying. A suggestion i have is that kids try to stick to the truth beacuse if anything your only hurting yourself and can be hurting others at the same time.

Why lord of the flies should be banned

No one wants to read a book about people killing each other, especially if its 12 year old boys.  Lord of the flies by William Golding should be banned because of the dark killing, sexual content, and graphic language and scenes.  This book has been challenged by many school libraries for many reasons.

There was two deaths in the book that were both caused by murder, one was Simon and the other one was piggy.  Simon was killed because he thought the lord of the flies (the mother pig) couldn't really talk.  The nine year old, Simon, came out of the woods and told his group of people that the lord of the fly couldn't actually talk.  All the kids charged at him with their spears.  they started stabbing him yelling “Kill the Sow, Spill the blood!”.  this part really showed how ruthless this book can be because oh how young Simon was and how easily he was killed.  They also killed piggy who was only trying to stop the killing, but the kids wanted no part in it.  They threw rocks at him nailing him in the head sending him 40 feet off a cliff killing him.  This is two huge examples of ruthless killing over peace and reality that two young boys just wanted to help.  “It was considered “inappropriate reading” in a Marana, Arizona, high school in 1983 and a year later challenged in the Olney, Texas, Independent School District for “excessive violence and bad language” states the banned books awareness

This book also had sexual content in the book.  Many parents don't want their children being introduced to sexual content by other people.  in the beginning of the book the author states talks about piggy blowing on the conch and with Ralph replying with “Why don't you blow on this?” as he holds his groan, but that's not even the worst part.  In chapter eight the kids kill and torture a mother sow.  All the boys jumped on the sow.  Many articles believe that the boys were torturing her in a sexual way, because there were no girls on the island so this is the only thing they got.  Rodger also said “Stick it up the ass” which he did do with his spear as the mother sow squealed with pain.  This caused many problems with schools because it was rape

Another Huge thing in this book was the graphic scenes the kids encountered.  "The rock struck Piggy a glancing blow from chin to knee: the conch exploded into a thousand white fragments and ceased to exist. Piggy, saying nothing, with no time for even a grunt, traveled through the air sideways from the rock, turning over as he went. Piggy fell 40 feet and landed on his back across the the square red rock in the sea. His head opened and stuff came out and turned red. Piggy's arms and legs twitched a bit, like a pigs after it has been killed"(Golding 181).  This moment in the book really set a deep dark image in everyone head.  The thought of piggy falling and smashing his head open really made many people think how insane these kids have become.  the kids also sang around the pig when they were trying to kill it yelling "Kill the pig. Cut her throat. Spill her blood. Bash her in." These are two good examples on how these kids were blood thirsty.

In all the killing, rape, and graphic scenes shouldn't be in a book that is meant for kids to read, because it can cause kids to do bad things and think they are ok to do, for example rape animals or kill other people.  This book should be taken off of libraries in every school.

Poem:    How Mean Can You Actually Be by Peter Seda

He can't take it anymore

He's hurt and can't go on

Just wait till he's gone

Then you'll see

Writing this poem was hard for me because I never got bullied. I wouldn't be able to relate to someone who has been bullied because I wouldn't be able to feel their pain.  I had to use my imagination and look back at the things I've seen happen in my life and hear about, I had to talk to people that have been bullied to get a better understanding of what has happened to them.

Reading Response

    The book I'm reading is called "Slam!" by Dean Myers and the main character who lives in the slums and his best friend is introduced to drugs. A lot goes through the main characters head everyday especially since it’s not safe where he lives.  After reading some of this book it really showed me how some places are really unsafe.      A part in the book that really made me start to was when the main characters brother came home one day because there was a drive by.  His brother was only 9 and the way he said it sounded like he wasn't surprised at all and that it’s a usual thing that happens.  This really felt like it was a realistic fiction moment because I always hear bad things like this about very poor neighborhoods, but didn't think much of it.      I think the message that the author was trying to tell me was that people end up getting used to it and you have to know your boundaries of what you do every day and to watch out for crazy things that happen.

Everyday Situations

     One thing I've witnessed was how much homework kids get and I think it’s unfair because I end up not getting enough sleep and being tired the next day.  Sometimes homework can take me more than an hour on one subject by itself and it leaves me with no time to study for my test the next day.  It also leaves me to not have enough time to be with friends.  I used to hang out every day, but now I can only hang out on the weekends because of all the work I get.

    A solution could be to maybe give us an extra day to do the homework or maybe give it to us on a Friday so we can have the weekend to work on it.  It would really help if maybe one day you don't get homework for one subject.
